Music for Stress Relief
Capstone Project
At this day and age, frequent feelings of stress are no stranger to a lot of people, whether it be students or those at work. My project attempts to assist those who live under a lot of pressure to relieve stress and relax the mind through several pieces of music that I will create. The pieces will have a common focus on mood, atmosphere, and surrealism, and they will feature a slow tempo and serene harmonies. The first piece will be a short piano prelude that draws influences from the Impressionist Era in classical music. The second piece will be a harmonization of the sounds of real life objects, emulating the effects of Tibetan standing bowls. If time allows, a third piece will be a dreamy, hypnotic song that draws influence from psychedelic rock. The pieces will be original compositions that are performed by myself and produced via digital audio workstations. This project’s significance is to explore the essential elements present in the three musical genres respective to the three aforementioned compositions, and to combine these elements into a unique relaxing experience for the listener.
